Wave chair
- Solid acrylic core material
- Laser-cut 3D veneer applied to fabric
Collaborating closely with an extraordinary designer is both inspiring and challenging for us. It's an opportunity to push the boundaries of what's possible. This was certainly the case with the development and production of a highly demanding 3D freeform prototype – the high-end Wave Chair designed by the internationally renowned Ron Arad from London. This project has truly expanded our horizons in design, craftsmanship and engineering equally!
The development phase was characterized by major challenges in the selection of materials, shaping and surface design to ensure the functionality, stability and design standards of the product. Originally planned solutions had to be cancelled and replaced by completely new approaches. Simulations made it possible to analyze possible load curves and the resulting requirements for materials and their processing.
In the end, all requirements were met by using a solid acrylic core material and bonding it with a new type of laser-cut 3D veneer applied to fabric, which is new to furniture production. The manufacturing process is very demanding, and the project has enabled the company to develop a unique selling point that can now also be used for other areas of application.
Congratulations to our member company Holzmanufaktur und Vitrinenbau Auer for this truly outstanding achievement, honored with first place in the Tyrolean Craft Award in the category "Craft & Design."
